Queen's Wreath - Petrea volubilis, Sandpaper Vine. Some plants are simply incomperable. Queen's Wreath is one of those plants. It's a Tropical American evergreen vine that blooms some of the most spectacular flowers in the world. Long racemes resembling lilacs in shades of lavender appear from late winter through late summer and hang from woody stems that may grow to 35' or more. This is a woody, sturdy vine that thrives in warm and humid conditions. Even it's leaves are unique. Each dusty green leaf feels like fine grit sandpaper, thus it's other name. When blooms mature, they lose their violet-purple and turn dusky gray as they remain to make seed. This is no mere plant. It is an event.

Queen's Wreath is hardy zones 10a to 11. Further north, you must pot it up, give it a sturdy trellis and keep it mobile. It WILL need protection should a freeze become imminent. Give it plenty of sun, or you may get away with giving it morning shade and afternoon sun. Propagation is by seed, semi-hardwood or hardwood cuttings. It will grow slowly the first year, then blast off next season.

The plant offered is approximately 14 -24" tall and is well established in a 4" pot. Shipped in the pot with roots and soil intact.
