Garlic Vine Plant

$10.99

Mansoa hymenaea.

When we first posted this vine on the Dave's Garden forum, it received rave reviews. This well behaved and unusual vine from Mexico gets it name from the garlicky fragrance emitted when it is pruned or when the leaves are crushed. It's outstanding feature is the showy clusters of bluish or purple flowers that bloom in profusion every spring or fall. Surprisingly, the flowers don't have the garlic fragrance at all, but are mildly sweet. It may be planted in full sun, or kept in a large pot where freezes might occur. As it is a tropical plant, we recommend the pot and greenhousing if temps fall below 35-40 degrees. Just prune it back, haul it inside and place near a sunny window. Requires average, well drained soil and regular fertilizing. No special needs other than water and all the love you can lavish on it. Semi-ripe shoots with at least 3 nodes taken in mid-summer, will root relatively easily in hot humid conditions. Recommended zones 9-11.

Our Garlic Vines are in 4" pots and are between 14 - 24" long. Shipped in the pot with roots and soil intact.

We do not ship plants internationally. We do not ship plants to Arizona.
