Hippeastrum calyptratum bulb

$20.00

Hippeastrum calyptratum is native to densely wooded areas in the mountainous regions of South America. It's natural habitat is cool and humid. In that environment, they take up residence in the dimly lit crevices of moss covered rocks where organic material is lodged. They may also be found wedged between tree branches where they enjoy full sunlight. The most outstanding feature of the H. calyptratum is it's apple-green, abbreviated, Amaryllis form flower. This most unusual hippeastrum is ideal for cross pollination with other amaryllids. As with all amaryllis, planting medium must be well drained and mixed with organic material. Additon of Perlite or coarse gravel can be helpful in maintaining moisture without producing rot. A clay pot is preferred, but not essential as long as even moisture is maintained.

The bulb offered is approx. 1" in diameter. It will produce flowers in two years or less. If you already have H. calpytratum, this one may eventually become useful for the production of seed. It currently resides in a 2 - 1/2" x 5" pot. We will ship in the pot in order to maintain plant health in transit.

We do not ship plants internationally. We do not ship plants to Arizona.
