The Garden
Arghya Gardens is a small botanical garden on a very small plot of land. It began with gifts of plants, soil and fertilizer as a means of restoration. Over time, restoration came, and an idea was born. Suppose some of earth's truly rare things could be brought together in one place? Rare thoughts. Rare plants. Certainly, the rain forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. What of the plants within them? Why not bring rare plants together, grow them and distribute them to responsible gardeners?
We have spent a long time gathering many unusual plants, and have decided to make them employees of a sort. They work to sustain one another via seed, cutting and tunication. In doing so, they assure themselves a more lasting place on the planet, and they enhance our lives with their performance and beauty.
This is also a place where we hope new plant varieties will be born. Although some of our
seed is open pollinated, we hand pollinate quite a bit. If we come up with something new and different, we'll let you know. Over the past few years, we have come to know many other gardeners who have our same goal, and we respect their contribution to the preservation of plants we wish our children and their children to enjoy in the future. We hope you feel the same way as you search our catalog or purchase plants from us.
What You Can Expect From Us - And our Quality Control Inspector John Jay Owl
Like many of you we have ordered plants on line. In most cases we have been pleased, but there have been times when we've had a wheezing, peanut of a plant in a two inch pot roll out of the box directly to life support in the greenhouse. We believe that two inch pots a sale do not make. We want to sell you a plant that can take it's place in your garden as quickly as possible. Some plants are truly scarce, but not so scarce they have to be chopped up into 3" pieces and shipped gasping to your door, or be so small only your grandkids will live to see them bloom!
We have approximately 200 types of plants available, but all of them are not available at the same time. We contend with limited space, radical changes in weather and crop failure as many growers do. If you visit our eBay site through the link found at the bottom of each web page, you will find plants currently available to ship. The larger catalog list illustrates what may be available during the year.
We are not a massive plant nursery. We are a botanical garden. We aren't cranking plants out like nuts and bolts. We take our time. Our goal is to sell you a plant we would like to receive.
Shipping
We ship Priority Mail unless plants are very large. For larger plants, we will determine best way to ship at the time of sale. If you are concerned about your plant arriving in good shape, ask for insurance. We are no less concerned about your plant arriving safely than you are, but we cannot be held responsible for damage in transit. We package responsibly with the hope that the plant we've toiled over will arrive at your door intact.
Plants are like people. They like to stay where they are most comfortable, and long trips can leave them frazzled and distressed. When your plant arrives, unpack it quickly and administer a drink of water. Place it in a location where it may receive filtered light for a few days before you plant it in it's permanent location. Email us if you have a question about care.
Occasionally, when weather or season warrants, we will withold shipment of pre-paid plants to zones where they may be damaged during shipment. When it is safe to ship, we will notify you via email. We do not offer refundsor replacements for plants damaged during shipment.
We will delay shipments during periods of extended holiday periods when the Post Office is closed, or we feel heavy traffic might delay delivery and cause injury to live plants in transit.
We DO NOT ship plants internationally.
We DO ship seed internationally, but we do not offer phyto-sanitary certificates or any other form of documentation beside standard USPS import documentation. If your country requires specific descriptions of species for customs, please notify us at the point of sale.
International shipment of seed can be risky, and we cannot replace seed lost in shipment. Please keep this in mind when you place your order.
Due to restrictions placed on Florida growers by each state's respective state agricultural comission, we cannot ship plants to California, Arizona or Hawaii. We do not ship plants to Puerto Rico.
Payment
We accept payment through Pay Pal and money orders. No personal checks or foreign currency. U.S. Dollars only.
We hope you will enjoy both our site and catalog and bookmark us for a weekly return visit.
